The Athletic Training and Fitness Program Supervisor oversees all aspects of fitness facilities and programming for students, employees, and patrons. This role focuses on enhancing the health and performance of student-athletes, supporting campus recreation activities, and fostering a lifelong commitment to physical fitness. As the expert in fitness programming, strength and conditioning, and sports medicine, the supervisor oversees daily operations, supervises staffing, and fosters collaboration with various college departments to ensure smooth and efficient functioning. This position reports to the Athletics Manager.
Responsibilities
Hire, supervise, and train the Athletic Trainer, Fitness Center Specialist, and student employees.
Supervise and serve as a preceptor for athletic training students and other interns.
Provide direct athletic training services and oversee care during athletic events as needed.
Oversee strength and conditioning programs for each team.
Oversee and maintain fitness facilities to ensure the safety of participants and security of equipment.
Document and resolve or report any safety or maintenance issues as appropriate.
Maintain accurate member tracking records for all participants and comply with record-keeping requirements.
Develop procedures and rules for the fitness facilities to maintain cleanliness and organization.
Educate patrons on the safe and effective use of the facilities and equipment.
Document incident and injury reports when appropriate and manage the insurance claims process, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up with relevant parties.
Support the development and implementation of exercise programming guidelines.
Develop fitness initiatives and programming and work with Marketing and Communications to effectively promote these activities.
Attend athletic staff meetings and other meetings as required.
Engage in professional growth and development through self-study, networking, and participation in educational programs, conferences, and workshops.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports Management or related field.
Athletic trainer certification (BOC) and current Illinois licensure required.
Two years of experience in fitness programming, strength and conditioning, sports management, or related area. Experience managing fitness facilities or recreational programs preferred.
Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
Professional certifications such as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), American Council on Exercise (ACE), or National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) are preferred.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Ability to train, supervise, and manage staff, including students and interns.
Proficiency in developing and implementing fitness programs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fitness software applications.
